A GENERATIVE ZEN
GARDENER
SAND BOX
Sandbox –A generative zen garden– (WIP) is an abstract audiovisual experiment, inspired by Japanese zen gardens, that documents the cinematic activity of a generative ecosystem. It is a modest attempt to decode the mechanisms and rules of the intimate essence of nature, and involves a free abstract audiovisual interpretation of its beauty.
Through the development of custom software for the synthesis of abstract images, the exploration of algorithmic visual compositions and the implementation of creative processes of computational experimentation, the aim is to generate an audiovisual work that represents an abstract interpretation of the four seasons through which a generative ecosystem passes.
This project implements an approach to generative art focused on the construction of a system capable of generating unpredictable events, all while maintaining a recognizable common character, and making use of an autonomous system where controls are greatly reduced. This “emergent” approach aims to generate evocative audiovisual compositions.

ECOSYSTEM
In the generative ecosystem of SandBox, there are four functional interpreters: rock, hole, sand and gardener, analogous to the elements we find in a Zen garden. Each of them has specific properties and functions that can vary over time and affect to a greater or lesser degree the overall aesthetic of the environment.
STONE
REPELLER
Element that the gardener strategically positions in the environment and that exerts a certain repulsive force on the sand particles, so that they hardly come close to it.
HOLE
ATTRACTOR
Element place by the gardener that exerts a certain force of attraction on the sand particles, so that they progressively get closer and disappear when they reach it.
SAND
PARTICLE
Entity that moves, raked by the gardener, avoiding rocks and attracted to holes. Its journey through the ecosystem is traced by colored lines and parameterized sounds.
GARDENER
DIRECTOR
Entity in charge of spreading the previous elements within the environment in a certain space-time composition, and raking a handful of sand within the emerging scenario.
